Description

Latin Name: Capsicum annum. Days to Maturity: 65-green, 85-red ripe. About the Plant: One of the most popular chilis in Mexico! 3- to 6-inch heart-shaped fruit is usually of gentle heat, at around 2000 Scovilles. Used green, after roasting and peeling, it is the classic pepper for chili rellenos. Dried, the fruit turns a rich dark. Extra-dark with traditional checking. The darkest jalapeño we offer. Fruits avg. 3 1/2–3 3/4″ and exhibit “checking” (small cracks in the skin) that indicates the fruits are ready for harvest. They may be harvested before checking, but the harvest window for this is shorter. The productive, medium-size plants have a high yield potential. The extra-dark green color is a significant advancement in jalapeño breeding. Intermediate resistance to bacterial leaf spot races 1–3.
